Deception In The Church

The Bible is more than a book, it contains wisdom, answers, warnings, and so much more. The words are living and helps keep us close to God and safe from the enemy. Today I want to talk about something that is mentioned in the Bible many times but appears to be taken too lightly. I want to talk about false prophets and deception in the church. I feel that the Lord has put this heavy on my heart because of the amount of people that are being deceived today.

When we read Gods word we have to acknowledge all parts of the bible and not just the fluffy and pleasant parts. Unfortunately one of the biggest deceptions stems from just that. It is important to know that Satan is real. This is not a common topic in the church today which can leave us vulnerable.

We read in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.” We also read in 2 Corinthians 2:11,  “Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.” These two verses alone show us a few different things. The first thing it shows us is that Satan is real and he searches for those that he can devour. The next verse also shows us that he can take advantage of us if we are ignorant of how he operates. It is important that we know that he is real so that we know how to protect ourselves against him. We can not fight against the enemy if we do not believe he exists and we can not protect ourselves if we do not know how he operates.

The next deception I want to address is that the enemy can not operate in the church. Many people believe that church is a safe place where the enemy can not reach them. This is a dangerous deception because the enemy is not looking to devour those who are already in his grasp but those who are a threat to him, which is the body of Christ. I am going to list a couple of ways that he is operating in the church today so that you may not be deceived.

1. False Prophets/Doctrine

In Mathew 24:11 we read, “And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.” This is not the only time we are warned about false prophets which means we should be paying close attention to what pastors, or people in general are teaching. It is important that you do not listen to everything that is said to you and except it as truth. You should compare everything to scripture. The Bible says in Mathew 7:16 , “Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” Below are two examples of Pastors that have been deceiving many.

Joel Olsteen: Joel Olsteen and his wife Victoria Osteen seem to have a large number of followers but are they teaching the true Gospel? In one of their Sermons Victoria says “When we obey God, we are not doing it for God,we’re doing it for ourselves. When you come to church, when you worship him, you’re not doing it for him really, you’re doing it for yourself.”  I would call that Blasphemy & self glorification.

Joyce Myers:  “We’re never going to mature and develop godly character until we learn to live….. with the All-Seeing eye on us all the time.”  The all seeing eye is in connection with the occult, Illuminati and false idols. Joyce Myers also teaches that we are little Gods. The bible is clear that there is only one God, it’s actually the first of the ten commandments.

You should also be careful of prosperity preachers. Jesus never said come to me and you will have an easy life filled with good health, wealth and happiness. In John 16:33 we read, “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” We are told that we will endure tribulation while we are here but we are also told in Romans 8:18, For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”

It is also wrong to twist scripture and promise somebody good health or doubled income for tithing more than can afford to give. I believe in tithing but I don’t believe that you should be forced to tithe or give a specific amount. God knows what you can give, and what you give is between you and him. I do believe that you will be blessed for giving but I would not go as far as saying how you will be blessed or when. These pastors seek self gain.

There are also churches that require you to provide a copy of your w2 forms and pay a percent of it to the church so that you may attend. Can you imagine what God will say when he stands face to face with anyone who charged to share Gods word or denied anyone the gospel that we were meant to share with EVERYONE? Mathew 21:12-13 says, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money changers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”

These are just a few examples of false prophets and doctrine. Hopefully I have given enough insight to help you identify them when you see them. I would also recommend praying for the gifts of wisdom and discernment. I can only provide knowledge and insight from what I see and what I am able to discern for myself but the Lord can show you much more. Everything I am able to discern is thanks to him.

2. False Anointing

Right now there is a movement spreading through our church like wildfire. People are being fooled into submitting themselves to a false spirit which is actually related to Hinduism. What people are experiencing is not the Holy Spirit but a Kundalini awakening. Mathew 24:24 warns us, “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.” We also read in 1 Corinthians 12:1, Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.

The movement we are seeing now claims to be the power of the Holy Spirit. There are pastors claiming to be “drunk on the spirit,” while standing on stage acting like a drunken fool. Members are taking part in fire tunnels & submitting themselves to an impartation of what they believe to be the Holy Spirit while the manifestations of this say otherwise. There are members of the church shaking and convulsing uncontrollably, screaming in different tones & tongues, feeling as if they are on fire, running around the church, rolling around on the ground, & acting drunk.

While you may weep in the presence of the Lord you shouldn’t manifest in these ways due to the presence of the Holy Spirit. In order to help determine if what you are seeing is from God or not you should ask yourself what the fruits of the Spirit are. Fruits of the Spirit produce love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness, gentleness & self control. Screaming, Convulsing, acting drunk or feeling like you are on fire do not match with the fruit of the spirit. Screaming & running around like a barbarian do not show signs of self control. Feeling like you are burning does not produce a sense of peace or joy. The bible says we should be sober minded, saying that you are “drunk on the spirit” could be considered blasphemy.

What people are experiencing is a Kundalini awakening, a false “Holy Spirit.” A kundalini awakening occurs when a guru places his hands on you and you begin to manifest in many of the ways we just mentioned. It is important that you are able to discern what you are submitting yourself to. People have said this is a new move of God but our Bibles tell us God never changes nor does his word. We don’t read anything in the bible that suggest any of this should happen when receiving the Gift of the Holy Spirit or being in his presence. Jesus would not have his disciples laughing and acting drunk while trying to preach the gospel. Nobody would take them seriously and many would turn away thinking Jesus was a joke based on their actions.

Lord I thank you for the wisdom and knowledge you have given me and the opportunity to share it with others. I pray that you bless everyone reading this, including myself with more wisdom, knowledge, discernment and revelations. I thank you Lord for everyone reading this now and pray for their eyes to be open, and paths clear. In your name I pray, Christ Jesus, Amen.
